Look, I'm not going to be coy with you. This is a website which specializes in subtitling anime TV shows and movies. I mean, this is what they do. You have someone who knows Japanese or Korean or whatever language the show was made in, and then translates it into English so that subtitles are available for people who don't understand the languages themselves. Now, these are usually licensed by someone else - like Funimation or Sentai Filmworks - but sometimes you can find people subtitling their own interpretations of things on YouTube if you're really looking for something specific. Some of these people put out their own DVDs, too. And then there are the guys like me who get paid to do this on the side. People who don't know any Japanese (and not many do these days) get their anime subtitled, and they're happy! So I'm putting my money where my mouth is here. I am going to be providing you with some of my personal favorites in the world of anime subtitles. Let's start with some you've heard of before - Fullmetal Alchemist , Yu-Gi-Oh , and YuYu Hakusho . FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST SUBTITLE Here's an oldie but a goodie. Fullmetal Alchemist's been around for awhile, and it's been licensed many, many times by Funimation , Rightstuf , Manga Entertainment , etc. You can get a good English dub from Funimation if that's what you're into, but the subtitles on some of their DVD releases haven't been very accurate. I've seen a lot of people saying the subtitles don't match the verbal translation on some episodes or have some other issue. I'll tell you right now: this doesn't happen on my DVDs! I used to do this for fun, and nobody ever really complained. Not until I started getting requests for it. So I see what I do as a good service, and it keeps me in anime and reading manga. People like what I did, and that makes me happy. So let's talk about the Abridged (sometimes referred to as "Wacky") translation. It's always been one of my favorites, because there's never been a version of Fullmetal Alchemist that has every single line translated word for word like this one is, and it captures the spirit of the series perfectly. At least for me, anyway. So what you're going to get with this version is a lot of weird jokes, a lot of breaking the fourth wall, and a lot of references to pop culture. It includes swearing that is not present in the original (anime) as well as some other things. I'm not going to apologize for any of them because I like this version better than the original translation. It's funny and campy and it makes me laugh. Plus it doesn't make Edward sound like an idiot by translating his alchemy jargon as "Transmutation!" over and over again, and that's nice too. cfa1e77820
